I think they are going to push pricing. Apple has now gotten to the point where pricing for market share makes more sense. Now, they won't sacrifice quality, but they will push the pricing model hard and factor in the success in keeping it as low as reasonable.
The big thing is a market for traditional printed media that works. They have proven it for music, now apps, and finally books, mags and more. The Internet has changed the dynamic for good, and the model has to change. Apple has a model that works, and democratizes (less need for big traditional publishing houses than before) better than others in a way that is consumable. Already Amazon is scrambling, and everyone is trying to figure out the "eBook" thing. Apple is the defacto leader before the product even hits the shelves! Apple could really become the next Amazon. Really! And, I think with a working eBook system that is not "too" proprietary, which music is in iTunes, Apple will hit a good sweet spot that will finally transition us to the paperless society we were promised before. Now it just is happening. Tools to manage and use your files/content, and finally a working distribution system to match. Bingo. It will be a huge success out the gate, but the real revolution will unfold over the next couple of years. It isn't about the device as much as it is about a working market model. Apple is in the cat bird seat, and they know how to execute. It is going to be awesome to watch. -jason
Turns out it's just a large iPod Touch device.
Yahoo has a Minyanville review up: http://tinyurl.com/y88dhrn "It's basically just a large iPhone and, sadly, nothing more. No front-facing camera, no multitasking. Wait, and no phone calls. So it's basically just a large iPod Touch." |
